I am trying to cook more at home and feed my family a wider variety of foods. People can just read or join as co-authors. Topics don't have to be recipes with nice photos. You can write about eating habits, special diets, culinary cultural differences, etc.

Foods odds and ends

Friend of mine holding a Beach Staple.. the wonderful Funnel Cake!

It's been eons since I posted anything on here so I figured we can bring it back with the holidays around! Just the other day hubby did a few dishes and arranged it in the plate all cute and asked for the camera.. LOL It's funny HE'S thinking of the blog and he doesn't even write on it! Anyway.. as I was checking the camera.. I noticed a few pics from back in July when we went to Ocean City, New Jersey!

Mmmmm... Pizza from Mack and Mancos

The first one was the beach pic. Outside of pizza from Mack and Mancos.. my favorite is definitely the Funnel cake (there are several locations you can get this). Other beach goodies are salt water taffy (usually everywhere on the boardwalk but we usually go to Fralingers), Johnson's Caramel Popcorn and fudge from The Original Fudge Kitchen.

Seafood Spaghetti

Back at home I do my normal stuff. This sucker I call Seafood Spaghetti though this time it only consists of Shrimp and Sea Scallops (my favorite over Bay though I never turn down those :p ) in a scampi/Japanese sauce + cheese.. yes.. I never said it was healthy.. I usually crave this sucker around 3 am when I'm watching anime :p

Sweet and Sour Chicken with Rice

Hubby's dishes are next. He made me a sweet and sour chicken. Most of it was from a dry mix we found but he did it all. Was so cute.. he did the whole thing.. arranged it on the plate and yelled for the camera.. LOL!! It was quite yummy though even after making it.. he insisted he can do better with his own recipe and quite frankly.. I agree.. he cooks spectacular.. just need to find a good recipe for it. In the meantime though, dry package was just fine.

Lemon herb marinated/grilled chicken

Hubby again cooking. This time it was chicken breast marinated in a Lemon herb mix I found in Wegman's with Rice and brocoli with cheese. I didn't mind that the chicken was a little overgrilled but it was still moist and yummy :)

Good for you and Don. I love lemon chicken! I'll try to blog some holiday food as well. Are funnel cakes like donuts?

Funnel cake is basically fried dough but doesn't have the same taste as donuts.. it is close though since they have the same type of preparation .. only difference though is the type of dough and how it's ultimately fried. Having grown up with both I do like Funnel Cake more.. it wasn't until I was much older did I realize it's a regional cuisine. I think a recipe online is easy to find and you don't need any crazy different ingredients so I think you can make it in Japan!

OMG!!! That's one hell of a funnel cake. They don't make them quite that big at the State Fair. :) I LOVE them tho. I make them at home about once a year. Waaaayyyy too unhealthy for any more than that. (you know I know about them, Elsie, having grown up in FL with all those yankees :D)

Theheheheh Now granted we buy 1 funnel cake and she and I murder it.. sometimes the guys pick at it as well.. When I do it at home we eat the whole friggin' thing :p But you know how it goes.. all things take yummier at the beach.. it's a fact of life! So yes we did eat most of that as unhealthy as it is :) Sucks it was my only beach trip this year. Circumstances and health issues stopped us from going more this year :(

Yeah any grilling we do is using the Cuisinart thingie. Hubby likes to make sure it's really grilled (we hate pink chicken) and I think he went a little too long.. usually it's not that grilled but even so.. it was still quite moist. Heck I'd do a commercial for that thing..

Pete doesn't like powdered sugar so we usually use cinnamon sugar instead. Or... on occassion I've made them for breakfast and they eat them with maple syrup. :) Anyway you make them they are good.
